The Founder of the Firm - the Late Dr. Moshe Shekel, Adv.

Shekel & Co. was established in 1992 by the late Dr. Moshe Shekel (1958-2017), who is considered one of the foremost authorities on tax law in Israel. In his practice, he took part in some of the most prominent transactions in the Israeli economy and in a number of monumental precedents that shaped the tax laws in Israel. Dr. Shekel was known for his larger than life personality, and was often involved in issues that touched his heart. He managed pro bono the famous case of Vered Perry that resulted in a landmark judgment by the Israeli Supreme Court, which ruled that her childcare expenses were tax deductible.

Dr. Shekel was born in Haifa. He received an LL.B. from Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Law in 1985, and started his LL.M. studies the same year. During and after his studies, he served as a research assistant, teaching assistant and lecturer at Tel Aviv University.

From 2004 to 2008, he studied at Brunel University in London where he completed his doctorate. The subject of his doctoral thesis was “Recognition of Income from Deposits and Advance Payments for Tax Purposes.”
In July 2009, Routledge-Cavendish Publishers belonging to the Taylor & Francis Group, published Dr. Shekel’s book based on his doctoral thesis, “The Timing of Income Recognition in Tax Law and the Time Value of Money”. This book is widely acclaimed by many throughout the academic world. In June 2017, Dr. Shekel published another book, “Supernatural Tax – Oil and Natural Gas Taxation”, a comprehensive and innovative study on the fiscal aspects of natural resource enterprises in Israel. Dr. Shekel has also published dozens of articles in diverse tax areas in various prestigious journals.
